The US economy could face major disruption on September 30 if two key negotiations aren't resolved. A government shutdown looms if Congress fails to pass a stopgap bill, and East and Gulf Coast ports may shut down without a new contract for dockworkers. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell added, "The fallout of a shutdown would be bad for both parties, but Republicans may bear the brunt of the blame."

📵 Lebanon bans pagers, walkie-talkies on flights after blasts

Lebanon's General Directorate of Civil Aviation has imposed a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights. The decision follows two explosions across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, which left 32 dead and 3,250 injured. The ban applies to both checked and carry-on luggage at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport. The directorate stated, "Passengers will be informed immediately."

💥 Israel strikes 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers in Lebanon

Israel conducted airstrikes on southern Lebanon, hitting over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers and other "terrorist sites," including a weapons storage facility. The strikes were in response to Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces said the launchers were ready for use against Israel. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared, “This is a new phase of the war.”

Ohtani launched two homers and swiped two bags in the Dodgers' victory over the Marlins, reaching 51 steals. He hit a 438-foot shot in the sixth inning, with Dave Roberts praising his growing aggression. Roberts stated, “Shohei enjoys mastering pitchers.”

🏀 Caitlin Clark Sets Record for Most-Attended Game in WNBA Rookie Season

Caitlin Clark completed her rookie season in the most-attended game in WNBA history, with 20,711 spectators at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Clark contributed eight points, five rebounds, and eight assists as the Indiana Fever narrowly lost 92-91 to the Washington Mystics. Indiana finished the season with a 20-20 record. Clark stated, "It was a memorable night."

The U.S. ranks last among 10 high-income countries in health care, according to a report by The Commonwealth Fund. Despite spending the most on health care, the U.S. performs poorly in preventing deaths, access, and equity. It also has the lowest life expectancy and highest preventable death rates. Dr. Joseph Betancourt noted, “No other country expects patients to pay so much out of pocket.” 

🎓 Federal Judge Extends Block on Biden's Student Debt Relief 

U.S. District Judge Randal Hall, appointed by former President George W. Bush, extended a restraining order on President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan for 14 more days. The lawsuit, filed by seven GOP-led states, argues the plan is illegal, hampering Biden's efforts to offer relief before the November elections. Hall stated, “We need more time to assess the requests from both sides.”
