💼 Americans Job Search Rate Hits 10-Year High: NY Fed Survey

A record number of Americans fear job loss, with unemployment concerns at a 10-year high, per the NY Fed survey. The likelihood of becoming unemployed in the next four months jumped to 4.4%, and 28.4% are actively job hunting, the most since March 2014. Economist Ahmed Riesgo warns, "Weakness in the labor market... will ultimately drive this market lower."

⚖️ Judge Overturns FTC Ban on Noncompete Agreements

US judge strikes down a proposed Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rule banning worker non-compete agreements. U.S. District Judge Ada Brown in Dallas ruled that the FTC lacks authority to enforce the ban, calling it “arbitrary and capricious.” The decision, made on Tuesday, halts the rule's planned September 4th implementation. FTC may appeal.  FTC's Victoria Graham stated, "The decision doesn’t prevent case-by-case enforcement."

Hamas criticized President Biden on Tuesday, accusing him of "blind bias" toward Israel after he claimed Hamas was "backing away" from a Gaza cease-fire deal. Hamas expressed "astonishment and disapproval," stating they initially agreed to a cease-fire framework but accused Israel of changing the terms. “We reaffirm our commitment to what we agreed upon with the mediators.”

Maria Branyas, recognized as the world’s oldest person by Guinness in January 2023, passed away in Spain at 117. Born in 1907 in San Francisco, she witnessed two world wars, the 1918 Spanish flu, the Spanish Civil War, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Branyas credited her longevity to tranquility and positivity. Her daughter shared her peaceful passing stating,  “She died as she wanted—in her sleep, without pain.” 

🚗 EU Slaps 9% Tariff Hike on Chinese-Made EVs, Including Tesla

The European Union has decided to impose additional tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, with Tesla set to face a 9% hike, while other manufacturers could see tariffs as steep as 36.3%. Unveiled on Tuesday, this initiative seeks to shield European automakers from subsidized competition. Tesla’s lower rate acknowledges its limited subsidies. The five-year tariffs may intensify trade disputes between the EU and China.

Disney has withdrawn its claim to force arbitration over a wrongful death lawsuit involving a man whose wife died from an allergic reaction after dining at Disney World. The company initially argued that Disney+ terms barred the lawsuit, but following backlash, it agreed to court proceedings.  Disney's Josh D'Amaro stated, "We believe this situation warrants a sensitive approach."
