💼 US Private Sector Growth Strong in October; Price Pressures Align with Fed's Below-2% Inflation Target

The U.S. private sector shows strong growth in October, with the S&P Global PMI rising to 54.3. The Flash Services PMI reached 55.3, while Manufacturing PMI improved to 47.8. New orders surged to a 17-month high, although hiring declined for the third month. Chris Williamson, Chief Business Economist at S&P Global, stated, “Weaker price pressures align with inflation below the Fed’s 2% target.”

White House Economic Council Director Lael Brainard praised the US economy as a “real source of strength” at Semafor’s World Economy Summit, held alongside IMF and World Bank meetings in Washington. She stated, “The underlying foundations of the economy are very strong.”

This comes after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed North Korean troops are in Russia. Turner cautioned that such developments could escalate into a NATO conflict, stating, “They will become legitimate military targets.”

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced plans to resume Gaza peace talks in Doha, Qatar, aimed at establishing a cease-fire and hostage deal following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The U.S. will send $135 million in aid to Palestinians, focusing on water sanitation and maternal health. Vice President Kamala Harris stated, "This is an opportunity to end this war and bring relief."

Five individuals from Chicago have been federally charged in Los Angeles for allegedly conspiring to murder rapper Quando Rondo due to his suspected involvement in the 2020 killing of rival artist King Von. The suspects Kavon London Grant, Deandre Wilson, Keith Jones, David Lindsey, and Asa Houston were arrested on Thursday. The U.S. Attorney stated, “This indictment highlights ongoing violence in the hip-hop community.”

📰 LA DA to Recommend Resentencing in Menendez Brothers' Murder Case

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Thursday his intent to recommend resentencing for Lyle and Erik Menendez, nearly 30 years after their 1996 convictions for murdering their parents in 1989. This decision follows a 2023 defense petition citing new evidence of abuse. Gascón stated, “I believe they have paid their debt to society.” A hearing is expected in 30 to 45 days. 

🚧 US Secures $100M Settlement for Baltimore Bridge Collapse

The U.S. government has received over $100 million from Dali's owners, Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, after a March 26 collision with Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, which killed six workers. The settlement covers channel-clearing costs but excludes reconstruction expenses. Brian Boynton of the Justice Department said, "This is a tremendous outcome that fully compensates the United States for the costs it incurred."
